MY “OTHER” LOVE

Aside from my intense love for the mother of my treasures, I must admit that my other very big love has been always my great love for my job (all my past ones too) and my always improving career, what I decided to do now is to list my jobs (in order of time) and mix it all up with the relationship with my wife Michele (my trophy wife) for the simple fact that when I married her, my work career started (you can look at my past post about my career)=

1.    Stanadyne: my dad was the CEO of this company based in Bologna that was the supplier of several types of hydraulic shafts for the company named Landini, part of the Massey Ferguson corp. for several years, I was the sales manager under S. Santilano – former professor of physics at the university in Palermo and who used to smoke at least 200 Marlboro 100’s in his office all day and used to tell me that he wouldn’t get out of bed every morning if he hadn’t smoked at least 4 cigarettes. Michele and I lived in a villa owned by the company owner that was on a nearby hill and we had as neighbor another salesman who used to be an important salesman for the gun-company Beretta and who had plenty stories about travelling to north Africa to sell weapons that had to be tested by shooting at targets of different kinds (not people, luckily). However I really wanted to work in my mother town, Verona and kept trying to do so with the help of plenty of my friends in that town, luckily I was put in touch with the CEO of W.L. Gore & Associates in Italy (based in Verona) and got hired very quickly as sales specialist in the footwear division that had me travel almost daily to the town of Montebelluna (not very far) where I would visit the plenty footwear companies (mostly hiking boots producers) based in that area together with the product specialist named Plinio who became a very good friend of mine. (left a big disappointment when I left, I had been chosen already to take the place of the top sales guy Santilano and my dad felt like I had left him too)
2.   W.L. Gore & Associates: this is the company where I worked at for the longest time and gifted me with my relocation to MD in the USA where I was in charge – in the footwear division – to help the distributors of Italian footwear companies (mostly hiking boots producers) be very effective in their marketing and distribution efforts.

  1. 3.   GEOX As their VP of sales for this nation I built from scratch the distribution countrywide with Nordstrom as primary account, plus I opened the first 2 retail stores in the New York and PA area. (I was becoming too powerful in this company and my insistence in being positioned as the president of GEOX USA had me fired almost overnight)
  2. 4. TECNICA (ski boots company) My issue here was mostly the fact that we were living in the middle of wilderness, our neighbors were bears and elks plus we were under 4 feet of snow 4 months each year, therefore given that every time I was in CA I felt almost 80 degrees of difference, I was looking for a job in CA. in addition the fact that Michele was born in this State, made the idea to have a new job in this State, I had tried several times to be hired by several different companies, for the most part in the footwear industry what's somehow sad is that when I gave my resignations to both the owner of Tecnica and to the CEO of Tecnica USA I was told that I had been chosen already to take the place (of the soon resigningCEO of Tecnica USA, the owner of the mother company got so mad that he walked out of the hotel room where I announced my plans that he walked out mumbling that he felt it best to leave rather than "offend God".  (I represented a very big disappointment for this subsidiary too, they've been going through several CEO'S already, but none good enough to keep this position for more than one winter season, I strongly believe that the language difference is a very big obstacle in working with the mother company based in Italy)
  3. 5.TEVA (Deckers group) I worked in the position of president for this company in this really magnificent group for only a couple of months because of my bicycle accident with TBI and this fully represents my additional loss, not only because – according to its CEO my cognitive abilities aren’t sufficient to run a company in the stocks market – but very much also because my physical disability doesn’t allow to me to travel extensively around the world.
In addition Michele and I were having marital problems around that time; in fact we were seeing a psychotherapist – under demand of Michele – in the attempt to have me become more understanding of the challenges Michele was facing when dealing with me (the man who always had the simplest and most immediate solution for any problem, no matter the kind).
As a matter of fact during the 2 months I lived in Santa Barbara all by myself, I was becoming very interested in a designer woman who did looked very much like my wife and such interest was (hopefully)  being reciprocated.
It’s truly impossible to guess what could have happened if I wasn’t basically murdered, I just say it because I’m honest.
Truth of this matter is that not only this accident (murder) had me lose my entire family but also my greatest passion in my like = my well paid job at Deckers.
