I always was a good student when attending them, right after
high school I attended what's called here scientific college, but in Italy was the
scientific liceo that - together with Italian literature, Latin and history
teaches advanced math, chemistry and planet earth geography.
Since the classes section that had the very best professors
teaching their special/advanced subjects was the one that had as foreign
language German, I enrolled in that - given that I was already comfortable with
the English language, having been attending the Cambridge school of English in
downtown Verona for few years already, I never became as comfortable speaking
in German as I've always been in English, but when I was working at W. L. Gore
& Assoc. in Italy, the European headquarters were in Münich, Germany and my
Business leader didn't speak a word in Italian, so many meetings used to take
place in Münich, all speaking in English (Gore is a US company) but what was
very funny is that my product specialist - who was going to those meetings with
me too - always would want to show off about his knowledge and understanding of
the German language and used to say (too) often: "warum sind die bananen
grün?", that means "why are the bananas green?". I remember
making thousands of jokes about this very question while driving in the same
car with my product specialist, by the name of Plinio (very rare in my country)
and also to have come up with the answer to this question in German.
That was really a very much fun and relaxed time of my life,
I was in my 30ies, just married and my focus was to come to live (with a job)
here in the USA with the final goal to generate children/treasures, new
Lingiardi to bring ahead my last name with my genes, therefore making me
somewhat immortal. I end this post asking to my readers: why are the bananas
green?
