As I’m deeply studying the concept of our consciousness, how
we are all part of the Universal one and how – after we die – our consciousness
re-joins the universal one, I stumbled upon the ideas of mind and soul (that Iacopo refuses it to be
existent at all).
This is actually the very reason that drove me to spend few
days into the study of this matter (even if related to very complex - for me -ideas such dualism and what someone such as Descartes elaborated
on).
However I was lucky to find a Youtube that explains the mind
in a good way:
In fact this helps me very much into attacking this subject
otherwise complicated since the seventeenth (XVII) century, many philosophers and scientists were
involved in the debate over this “simple” question: “What is the definition of
the human mind and the human brain?”
One of the explanations for the mind is that: the mind
is used to refer to the individual's thought process of reason and
consciousness. ... Soul is the spiritual nature of man while mind is man's
faculty of thinking and reasoning. 2. The soul is considered as the essence of
man while the mind is in charge of man's consciousness and thought, while
the
"soul or spirit" is that
part of us that enables us to be aware of ourselves. In other words it’s the essence
of life, eternal and its substance lies outside the physical parameters of the
Universe. Moreover, when in place in any physical body, it connects directly to
and is our consciousness.
In short we have 'minds'. Typically humans are characterized
as having both a mind (non-physical) and body/brain (physical). ... Dualism is the view that the mind and
body both exist as separate entities. Descartes argues that there is a two-way
interaction between mental and physical substances.
Very shortly we can say that brain and mind are not the
same. ... Your mind is part of the
invisible, transcendent world of thought, feeling, attitude, belief and
imagination. The brain is the physical organ
most associated with mind and consciousness, but the mind is not confined to
the brain. The mind is the manifestations of thought,
perception, emotion, determination, memory and imagination that take place
within the brain. Mind is often used to refer especially to the thought
processes of reason.
Now, after having read and studied way more than I need on
this matter, I’ve decided (probably incorrectly) that the mind is what’s been
called since the beginning of time (at least since Aristoteles) as soul.
I do realize that – given the wealth of websites dedicated to
this matters – I have maybe too many Youtubes in this post, BUT I found so many great – and directly to my point –
that’s been impossible to choose the ones to publish here and those to avoid,
however please do spend some time to click on the links at the bottom they are
truly the result of a pretty extensive research and choice.
